Cleaner Air Reaches More Than 200 London Schools
The Mayor of London’s £2.7 million programme is bringing HEPA air filtration to schools across the capital.
Cleaner classrooms for thousands of London children
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has launched a major programme to provide high-performance air purifiers and air-quality monitors to more than 200 schools across London.
Backed by £2.7 million of City Hall funding, the School Filters Programme is focused on communities experiencing poorer air quality and higher levels of deprivation. Participating schools will receive HEPA air purifiers in classrooms wherever possible, helping to reduce children’s exposure to fine airborne pollution.
Research commissioned by City Hall found that levels of PM2.5, a particularly harmful form of fine particulate pollution, were between 27% and 68% lower in classrooms using HEPA filtration than in classrooms without it.
Smart Air selected for the programme
Smart Air UK is supplying and installing its Blast and Blast Mini air purifiers as part of the rollout. Designed for classrooms and other large shared spaces, these machines combine powerful airflow with high-efficiency particulate filtration. Deliveries and installations are also being carried out using electric vehicles, with packaging collected for recycling.
The programme demonstrates that cleaner indoor air is becoming an important consideration not only in schools, but also in homes, offices, clinics and community buildings.
